Wrinkle Relaxers

One of the premier signs of aging is the formation of fine lines and wrinkles that are visible to the naked eye. From laugh lines to crow’s feet, wrinkles can be a source of self-consciousness for many people, women and men alike. At Premiere Aesthetics in Fort Myers, FL we know the most effective treatments to refresh your appearance are wrinkle relaxers.

What Are Wrinkle Relaxers?

These are treatments that relax the wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Wrinkles that form as a result of reduced levels of collagen in the skin or increased skin laxity are common to mature skin, with some wrinkles forming as early as the mid-30s. With these treatments, all fine lines and wrinkles can be quickly and efficiently treated.

Treatments to relax wrinkles can generally be used on any area of the face. This includes horizontal lines on the forehead, verticle lines between the eyebrows, and particularly nasolabial lines around the nose and mouth, also called “expression lines”.

How Do Wrinkle Relaxers Work?

Wrinkle relaxing treatments are typically minimally-invasive treatments that require targeted injections of special serums into the skin. Most of these treatments are formulated with neurotoxins, which are absorbed by the nerves in the face and block the transmission of muscle-moving transmitters. You can think of neurotransmitters as a selective numbing of facial nerves, which ultimately prevent certain muscles from contracting and worsening the formation of wrinkles. Neurotransmitters effortlessly smooth out the appearance of the skin.

What Are Your Treatment Options?

At our clinic, we specialize in several wrinkle-relaxing treatments, including:

Botox® Cosmetic

Botox is one of the most universally loved and respected wrinkle relaxing treatments in the world. Botox is a versatile anti-aging injectable treatment, as it can be used on both the upper face–such as the forehead and crow’s feet–and the mid-to-lower face and smile lines. Botox injections are concentrated at their injection sites.

Dysport®

Dysport is considered the second most common wrinkle relaxer and is just as versatile as Botox. However, while Botox is ideal for moderate-to-severe wrinkle concerns, Dysport is best suited to mild or moderate wrinkles. This is because the Dysport formula is more diluted than Botox and spreads beneath the skin surface for a more natural-looking, subtle relaxation.

Xeomin®

Xeomin is a specialized wrinkle relaxer that delivers a concentrated “naked” dose of neurotoxin to the targeted treatment area. Xeomin is generally used to treat glabellar lines, which are the wrinkles that form between the eyebrows.

Jeuveau®

Jeuveau has a very similar formula as Botox with a purified neurotoxin that relaxes the muscles in the face, particularly the upper face and frown lines around the mouth. This relaxer is ideal for patients who have moderate wrinkles.

Which Treatment Is Right for You?

Finding the treatment right for you depends on your needs. It’s common for one or more injectable treatments to be used on various parts of the face to produce the desired result. We assess which product is right for you based on the type of wrinkles you have and their severity.

Are These Treatments Safe?

Yes, these treatments are safe for the majority of patients. This is because the neurotoxins used in these treatments are purified and are carefully injected by skilled technicians. As a standard measure, we ask that all new patients complete an allergy test before your treatment appointment to verify that you do not have any allergies.

How Soon Can You See Results?

Results from these treatments can usually be seen within one to three days following treatment. The results will include smoothing of wrinkles on the face and relaxing facial muscles, which will help your overall appearance look younger.

How Long Do Results Last?

While Botox and Dysport both last for about three to four months at a time, both Xeomin and Jeuveau are known to last for three to six months. Your results may last longer if you use additional cosmetic treatments, such as dermal fillers or energy-based treatments, in conjunction with your wrinkle relaxing treatment.

How Frequently Do You Need Treatments?

Most patients opt to have follow-up treatments when the results of their initial injections begin to fade, which can mean having regular treatments three to four times a year. Your frequency will depend on how well you respond to treatment and the product that is being used. It’s also possible that you will need to alternate between multiple products so avoid building up a tolerance to one product in particular.

Will You Need a Consultation?

Yes. You will need to attend a consultation appointment prior to your treatment appointment. Your consultation will allow us to examine your appearance-related concerns, particularly the type of wrinkles you have and their formation. We will gather some information about you, such as any drug allergies you may have and previous treatments you have used to treat wrinkles in the past. We may also ask about your skincare routine and the products you regularly use on your skin.

Who Are Wrinkle Relaxers Right For?

Any person who would like to relax or erase the wrinkles on the face are good candidates for this treatment. You might be a good candidate if you have:

  • Mild, moderate, or severe wrinkles
  • Fine lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Laugh lines
