Minimally Invasive Skin Rejuvenation Treatment Options

While traditional skin rejuvenation interventions such as fractional laser therapy are effective treatment options, they also require lengthy recovery periods. This attribute makes them an undesirable option for many patients.

Fortunately, advancements in aesthetic treatments have led to the development of several minimally invasive skin rejuvenation techniques that are as effective as fractional laser treatment but offer a much shorter recovery period. Two of the most popular options are SkinPen microneedling and Vivant ProPeel chemical peels.

Below, we examine these two interventions so that you can better understand the treatments that are available to you from Premiere Aesthetics in Fort Myers, FL.

The SkinPen

The SkinPen is a specific type of microneedling device that is unlike anything else in use today. This device performs “fractional” microneedling in order to create thousands of microscopic channels within the skin of your face.

The microneedling process activates your body’s natural healing capabilities while simultaneously minimizing epidermal damage.

SkinPen vs. Traditional Microneedling

The SkinPen incorporates a spring-loaded, disposable needle tip and functions in a stamp-like motion. This vertical needling process makes SkinPen microneedling safer than traditional microneedling equipment.

In addition, the SkinPen’s size and ergonomic design ensure that the clinician has optimal control over the device. This allows us to precisely target problem areas on a patient’s skin in order to yield maximum benefits.

Another benefit of SkinPen is that its unique microneedling motion minimizes discomfort while also improving the absorption of topicals.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

As with all aesthetic procedures, your SkinPen treatment plan will be tailored to your individual needs. With that being said, some patients experience the best results with as few as three SkinPen treatments. These treatments must be spaced at least 30 days apart so that your body has time to activate its natural healing processes.

Before your procedure begins, our clinician may administer a topical analgesic cream designed to minimize any discomfort. After the analgesic has taken full effect, we will then begin the SkinPen microneedling process, which usually takes approximately 30 minutes.

Once the treatment is complete, our clinician will apply a topical cream meant to aid in the healing process.

Over the next 30 days, the microneedling will trigger several physiological wound response mechanisms. The first phase involves inflammation, which will typically occur one to three days after treatment. After that period has passed, your body will begin to create new cells in order to repair skin damage.

Approximately five days after your treatment, growth factors and collagen will be released.

SkinPen Results

While the results of your SkinPen skin rejuvenation therapy will vary depending on individual patient factors and the number of sessions that you receive, common benefits of this intervention include:

  • Skin tightening and lifting
  • Reduced appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Reduced pore size
  • Reduced appearance of acne scarring

The physiological effects of SkinPen can promote increased healing and healthy skin proliferation for up to two years after treatment.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are an effective, non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment option. These treatments are designed to provide patients with a clearer and fresher appearance by reducing the visibility of acne or aging-related skin defects. Chemical peels can also lighten brown spots and help clear up blackheads or whiteheads.

How It Works

During your consultation, we will carefully review important pre-visit steps that you must complete before undergoing your chemical peel. We will also provide you with home-use skincare products that you should use in preparation for your treatment.

Once the procedure begins, we will administer the chemical peel to your face. We will ensure that all areas of your face are adequately covered in the chemical. Within a few moments, the chemical peel product will create a warm sensation on your face. After the treatment is complete, we will gently wash away any residue.

Over the next two to five days, your skin will begin to peel. The peeling process is usually complete within about five to seven days after your treatment.

How Long Does the Treatment Take?

Typically, a chemical peel procedure will take a total of 45 minutes to an hour. Immediately after the procedure is complete, your skin may appear as if you have developed a sunburn.

For optimal results, it is usually recommended that patients receive a total of four to six treatments. These treatments should be spread out over four to eight weeks, as this will allow your skin to properly heal before receiving the next chemical peel.

What Results Can I Expect?

Chemical peels are a great non-invasive skin rejuvenation option, as they can improve the look and feel of facial skin. As the old layer of skin peels away, you may experience benefits such as:

  • Enhanced texture
  • Reduced fine lines
  • Reduced discoloration
  • A more consistent tone
  • Softer, smoother skin
  • Less prominent acne scarring

These benefits will typically be enhanced with each subsequent chemical peel treatment. You should experience the most noticeable results after the peeling process of your final treatment has concluded. However, many patients experience observable improvements after the very first chemical peel.
